The Fig Tree ---------------

On a hill, not alone, surrounded by no fruit on every side,
The season for love may never come,
Don't want to stand out alone...I will wait

One day my Lord will come for me,
Surely some one will let us know,
They've been saying that for years,
Maybe one day I'll choose to grow...but you first

Oh wait here he comes for me,
Now there is no time for fruit to grow,
He looks inside this leafy tree, he's hungry,
But there is no good fruit on this soul...Oh no!

I am the fig tree, the fig tree it is me,
In a world where God's season never came,
I never let God grow in me,

Bitterness has overcome,
There is nothing good upon me,
So now I die with everyone,
Withered from the root of my tree,
Never to live again,

I am the fig tree, the fig tree it is me,
In a world where God's season never came,
I never let God grow in me,

So learn a lesson from me,
Stripped of what I thought me to be,
Swiftly run to the light ahead,
Swiftly run to the light ahead

The Fig Tree-
What is this song about?

" The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then he said to the tree, 'May no one ever eat fruit from you again.' And the disciples heard him say it."
-Mark 11: 12-14

" In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. Peter remembered and said to Jesus, 'Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!'

"Have faith in God,' Jesus answered. 'I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. "

-Mark 11: 20-24

So Jesus, the most understanding individual that has walked this earth, is walking to Bethany and he is hungry. He sees a fig tree and looks in its leaves to see if there is any fruit. Even though he knows it isn't fig season. When he doesn't find any fruit he curses the fig tree. Seems a little harsh. The next morning they see the same tree and it is dead. Peter says "Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered!" This would be the time you would expect to hear " Yeah, look guys I'm sorry. I was hungry and I lost my temper. It's not even fig season. I'll heal it back."
But instead he says "Have faith in God, I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. " ........So where is the justice in that?

This is the lesson of the fig tree:

There will never be a time when everyone does the right thing. Not in this world. There will never be a time when everyone decides to follow God's commands. So if you are waiting for everyone else to go first, you will be waiting forever. God always calls us to rise above the standard. He always calls us to walk the extra mile, to turn the other cheek, to love our enemies, to do miracles, to stand in the face of adversity, and most of the time we have to go alone against the crowd. He doesn't say "if no one else does it you don't have to either" and he doesn't say " just go with the flow and you'll be alright". We are called to let our light shine in the darkness. We are called to love even when no one else will. There will never be a season when all humans do that. It's not in our nature.

If you live in sin you are a sinner no matter what you call yourself or what you may have been in the past.

So let's talk about faith for a second. Do you believe that God will answer YOUR prayers? Do you believe He has the power? Do you believe he even cares what you are going through or what you have to say? Do you believe that the day of miracles is only in the past or do you believe that they happen everyday? Do you truly believe that God has a plan for your life and that you are crucial and a vital part of the kingdom of God? Because I do! I believe that God loves you and has an amazing plan for you and for this world and the world to come. I believe that heaven is a real place just like this and one day I will be there! I believe that I can conquer anything that comes my way because the God that I serve owns the cattle on a thousand hills... and the hills themselves. I don't believe that there is anything too big to ask that he can't handle. I believe that the only reason there aren't more miracles in my life is because I don't have the faith to even ask for them. I believe that as much as I try I will always have tremendous room for improvement, but I will not let that discourage me. I will press on. I will try and I will win!

What do you believe? Because what you believe now determines what you will do with what you have. And what we have is one chance. How will you spend your one shot at life? I would rather be a fool in the eyes of men, then a fool in the eyes of God!

Don't wait until he is hungry and walks up to your tree looking for fruit. It takes time for fruit to grow. Start now, while there is time. Swiftly run to the light ahead. Swiftly run to the light ahead.
